Retrofit of Un-Reinforced Infill Masonry Walls with FRP

چکیده
This paper describes an experimental program that deals with retrofitting of infill un-reinforced masonry walls (URM) with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP). The primary objective of this research is to develop a retrofit strategy that while economical will minimize the influence of the retrofit on the overall performance of structural frames in predominant seismic regions. Allowing some damage to develop in the infill walls but guaranteeing that no out-of-plane collapse occurs under a moderate to strong seismic event will accomplish this objective. In parallel, analytical studies will aim at establishing design and strengthening guidelines for masonry structures. The experimental work completed up to date includes the testing of three URM walls retrofitted with vertical rods and horizontal rods, commonly referred to as structural repointing (Tumialan, et. al., 2001). The slenderness ratio of these walls was approximately 22 and the aspect ratio was one. Li, T., P.F. Silva, A. Belarbi, A. Nanni, and J.J. Analytical studies will enhance the experimental program by developing guidelines to predict the in-plane performance of infill URM walls. The design guidelines will complement existing documents developed by the American Concrete Institute (i.e., ACI-440H, ACI-440F, and ACI-530).

Analysis of Masonry Infill Panels Retrofitted with FRP Sheets in R/C Frames
Masonry infill walls are often used as non-structural elements. According to the past structural failure, ignorance of interaction between infill walls and enclosed frame may lead to the different seismic response for non-ductile building frames. The main contribution of this paper is to analytically investigate the behavior of reinforced concrete with masonry infill panels as participating str...

4 FRP strengthening systems for infill masonry walls are typically designed to resist flexural stresses due to out-of5 plane pressure. Previous research has shown that there are potential premature failure mechanisms due to shear 6 sliding of the infill, which could reduce the effectiveness of the strengthening system. Current design guidelines for 7 strengthening of masonry walls with fiber-re...

Masonry infill has been widely used as building material due to its cost effectiveness and availability. The failure of these masonry infill walls during the past earthquakes have underscored the importance of ensuring the safety of the infill walls when it is subjected to lateral loads. In-plane and out of plane failures have been observed in many reinforced concrete framed building with maso...

A thin layer of ductile fiber-reinforced mortar material referred to as Engineered Cementitious Composites, or ECC has been experimentally investigated as a seismic retrofit for unreinforced masonry infill walls in non-ductile reinforced concrete frames. Compression tests of masonry prisms retrofitted with 13mm of ECC were conducted representing the compression strut of a masonry infill under i...
